- The two new sites - Keith in Moray, Scotland and Hartmoor in the North East of England - will provide 239MW / 1000MWh of flexible capacity that strengthens the UK grid
- Keith is the longest-duration battery storage project to reach financial close in the UK
- Keith is due to energise in 2027 and Hartmoor in 2028. Both will be optimised by Field’s in-house optimisation platform, Gaia
London, 7 July 2026 - Field, the pan-European energy storage company, has reached financial close on two new UK battery storage projects. These projects together represent 1 GWh of new capacity that will strengthen the UK’s electricity system and contribute to the Clean Power 2030 mission.
- Keith, located in Moray, North East Scotland, is a 39 MW / 200 MWh project. It is one of the longest-duration battery storage projects to reach financial close in the UK to date and will help alleviate constraints on the B4 boundary that runs across Central Scotland. Keith’s battery storage system will be provided by Sungrow with balance of plant delivered by RJ McLeod. The project has secured financing from ING and Rabobank.
- Hartmoor, located in the North East of England, is a 200 MW / 800 MWh project. The project will provide resilience and flexibility for the region as the Dogger Bank group of offshore wind farms expands and EDF’s Hartlepool nuclear power station prepares for decommissioning. Hartmoor’s battery energy storage system will be provided by Envision, with balance of plant delivered by H&MV Engineering. The project has secured financing from ABN AMRO and Rabobank.
Both projects will be optimised by Gaia, Field’s proprietary in-house optimisation platform, with revenues underpinned by day-ahead swaps that have been executed with bankable counterparties.
The projects mark another significant step forward for Field’s battery storage footprint. The company now has four projects in construction, with Keith and Hartmoor joining the Drum Farm and Holmston projects, which are due to energise over the coming months. In total, Field now has 490 MW / 1.5 GWh sites in operation or under construction. Field energised its first German project in Waldkappel, Hesse, earlier this year.
Today’s milestone follows Field recently receiving positive ‘minded to’ decisions for five long duration energy storage (LDES) projects under the UK government’s Cap-and-Floor scheme. These projects have a combined capacity of 1.6 GW / 26.9 GWh.
Including a recent additional investment from CVC DIF, the financial close of these two projects takes the total debt and equity raised by Field, and invested into European flexible infrastructure, to over £500 million.
Amit Gudka, CEO and co-founder of Field, said: “Keith and Hartmoor take us to four large-scale battery projects in construction, on top of our growing operational fleet - proof that Field can construct and operate multiple complex storage projects simultaneously, at pace, across different markets. Both will be optimised by Gaia from day one, expanding our in-house platform across our growing portfolio."
Elgar Middleton acted as financial adviser and TLT as legal adviser to Field on the Keith and Hartmoor transactions.
