  • Waldkappel, Hesse site has started commercial operations, marking Field’s first operational site in Germany
  • Field also announces its Whitebirk, Lancashire site has entered into operation and will be optimised using Field’s in-house optimisation platform, Gaia, marking the fourth asset to use the platform

[13th March 2026 - London] Field, the pan-European storage platform, has had a strong start to 2026 with two of its battery storage sites starting commercial operations, including the company’s first site in Europe, as it continues to ramp up delivery of its pipeline of projects across the continent and provide energy security when it matters most.

In recent weeks, Field has started commercial operations at two battery storage sites, bringing new capacity online in Germany and the UK. The 16MW / 33MWh Waldkappel site in Hesse, Germany marks Field’s first project to enter active operations outside the UK.

Meanwhile, Whitebirk, Field’s 25MW / 50MWh site in Lancashire, was energised at the beginning of March. Whitebirk will be optimised using Field’s proprietary, in-house optimisation platform, Gaia. Having operated successfully for well over a year at Field Oldham, Gaia is now being rolled out across Field’s portfolio, enabling sites to respond dynamically to market signals and deliver enhanced flexibility and resilience for the energy system.

The milestones follow a bumper 2025 for Field which included construction beginning at Holmston, South Ayrshire and Drum Farm, Moray which have a combined capacity of 100MW / 200MWh. In addition, Field’s 50MW / 100MWh Auchteraw site in the Highlands started commercial operations in the Summer.

Amit Gudka, CEO of Field, said: “We had a strong 2025 and we’re off to an even better 2026 with these milestones today. Each new storage project we bring online strengthens energy security and tackles the grid constraints that are increasing energy bills.”

Notes to editors

  • Field develops, builds and operates the renewable energy infrastructure we need to reach net zero in the UK and Europe — starting with battery storage. Our battery storage sites provide clean energy when and where it’s needed most. This creates a more reliable, flexible and greener energy system that provides greater energy security and helps countries across Europe move on from expensive fossil fuels.
